MONTHLY LESSONS

MISSION: Our goal is to create school-wide initiatives and incentives to encourage our students to be well-rounded individuals ready to make their place in the world.  These monthly lessons provide discussion topics for students that can carry over to home. We encourage students to discuss these important issues within our school and community.  Discussion topics will vary by month and may include topics related to social media, school and class attendance, college and career readiness, and respect, responsibility and integrity.

Great minds discuss ideas.  Average minds discuss events.  Small minds discuss people.

November Lesson 2020

These are challenging times. The news is filled with reports of sickness and mandates for social distancing as well as talk about division within our country and the world. It seems overwhelming. This year we are exploring different ways to work on our mood. Last month's assignment was to call a friend or family member when we are feeling down. This month we will work on moving our body. We aren't necessarily talking about going to the gym or doing a workout, though doing those things is great. The goal is to find 20 minutes in one day, even if it's not 20 minutes all at once. Walk around the block, take a dance break, or even just walk in place during the commercials of your favorite TV show. Do some sit-ups or push-ups if that's your thing, or simply walk up and down your stairs. Your movement can be physically easy or physically hard; the point is to just move. Write down the times somewhere so that at the end of the day you can tally your time moving and reach your 20 minutes. Even small bursts of activity can add up. And the funny thing is that moving can actually make you feel better!
